"I can't believe it has already been a year since our wedding day. We had so much fun celebrating this weekend! First we drove to the Mesa Temple on Friday morning and volunteered to do marriage sealings for the dead. I remember when we did them in the San Diego Temple on our honeymoon, and I think that's when we decided that we wanted to do them every year on our wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful experience to perform those ordinances for the deceased who have waited so long to be together for eternity. It made me appreciate my own ordinances and helped me remember how special our wedding day was."
"After we finished our work at the temple, we drove 3 hours down to Puerto Penasco, Mexico ('Rocky Point') and checked into our hotel at the Penasco Del Sol."
"It was a great place to spend the weekend! The pool area was beautiful and it was right next to the beach."
"Near the pools was a sandy beach where they had lots of bamboo bungalows with grass roofs that you could lay under and enjoy the view. So we picked one and climbed in to watch the sunset over the horizon. It was so romantic!"
"The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel, then John went snorkeling while I enjoyed the sunshine. It was so relaxing to listen to the waves while sitting in a lawn chair under a grassy umbrella. I felt spoiled! When John came back in from the ocean, we played badminton in the sand. It was pretty fun!"
"For lunch we walked into town and found a small family-owned cafe that served authentic Mexican food. Their kids were younger than 10-years-old and were bringing us chips and drinks. The food was pretty good! The rest of the town looked pretty similar to the cafe. Every shop had an open entrance to the streets, which were mostly dirt. It was humbling to realize how much we've been blessed with and how much they survive without."
"We spent some time in the pool that evening as the sun went down. There was actually a fun little drink bar built into the pool, where the stools were actually under water and you had to go under a water fall to get there. It was pretty fun to just sit there and listen to the water trickle down as we watched the sunset."
"Before we left to go back home to Arizona, we took time to look over the goals we had set last Christmas before we were married to see how much progress we've made. We have been doing pretty well so far! This whole weekend has been wonderful, and I am excited to spend the rest of eternity with my amazing husband."
